Aegis of Valor Isn’t Loss Insurance Anymore: What Changed in 26.15
Got an S on your autofill and still lost LP? Your Aegis guide is out of date. Since 26.15 it doubles your win and protects nothing. Here is what that means, with the maths.

The short answer: since patch 26.15, Aegis of Valor no longer protects a loss. Riot rebuilt it around winning. When it is active, a win pays double LP, with no mastery grade required, and a loss costs a normal amount. If you lost LP on an autofill with a great grade, the system did exactly what it now says it does.
- Aegis now gives double LP on a win and no loss reduction. The grade requirement is gone.
- It is occasional: not every autofill gets it, and swapping roles in champ select forfeits it.
- The maths is generous: with equal gains and losses, an Aegis game breaks even at a 33% win rate.
“If I’m autofilled I have Aegis, so as long as I get a good grade I won’t lose LP even if we lose.”
✕ Verdict: OutdatedThat was the old deal. Riot removed it in 26.15 because it “created a secondary objective”: “play for the grade, not necessarily for the win.” Now Aegis “will no longer reduce LP losses in the case of defeat”, and wins award double LP without a minimum mastery score. With equal gains and losses, the win rate you need in an Aegis game is:
33.3%to break even, instead of the usual 50%What Riot Changed, and Why
The 26.15 notes (July 28, 2026) are blunt about it. The old loss protection and its mastery requirement pushed autofilled players to protect their grade instead of trying to win. Riot wants “every Ranked teammate to share the same goal”. So they refocused Aegis “entirely around victory”.
| Before 26.15 | Since 26.15 | |
|---|---|---|
| On a loss | LP loss reduced, if you hit the mastery requirement | Normal LP loss |
| On a win | Double LP, if you hit the mastery requirement | Double LP, always |
| Mastery grade needed? | Yes, a minimum score | No |
| What it rewards | A clean scoreboard | Winning |
Who Gets Aegis
Riot’s autofill support page gives the rules:
- Autofilled (given a role you didn’t pick): you can get Aegis, with a pop-up.
- Priority role or Fill: you can get it too, without the pop-up.
- Not guaranteed: Riot calls it “an occasional bonus”, not something every autofill gets.
- Lost if you swap your autofilled role in champ select, or get a penalty for something like going AFK.
Note the difference between getting your secondary role and being autofilled. You picked your secondary. That is not an autofill, so don’t expect Aegis on it.
The Maths: Why a Third Is Enough
Say you normally gain and lose about 25 LP. In an Aegis game a win pays 50 and a loss costs 25. You break even when two-thirds of your games are losses, because one win pays for two losses.
Aegis break-evenLP lost ÷ (2 × LP gained + LP lost). With 25 and 25 that is 25 ÷ 75 = 33.3%. Below that you lose LP. Above it you gain, and faster than in a normal game.
Turn on JavaScript to use the calculator. Example: at +25 / −25 LP and a 45% win rate, an Aegis game averages +8.75 LP, against −2.5 LP without it.
Our own arithmetic for a player on 25 / 25 LP:
The takeaway is not “autofill is good”. It is “an autofill with Aegis is worth playing out properly”, even in a role you’re worse at. A 40% performance off-role still nets LP on average.
Stop Playing for the Grade
The old rule taught a habit that now costs games: protect your scoreboard. Don’t take the risky Baron contest, don’t trade your life for a teammate, farm the side lane so your CS looks good. Under the old Aegis that could save LP on a loss. Now a good grade buys nothing on a loss, and a passive play that lowers your win chance costs you double on the upside.
The useful question in an autofill game is the same as in any game: what gives your team the best chance to win this fight?
“I Got an S and Still Lost LP”
Before assuming a bug, check four things:
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Which roles you selected | Playing your secondary is not an autofill |
| Which role you were given | Only an autofill, priority role or Fill can carry Aegis |
| Whether Aegis showed as active | It is occasional, not guaranteed |
| The result | A loss costs normal LP since 26.15, whatever your grade |
A good grade protects your LP on a loss.
Not since 26.15. Aegis no longer reduces losses, and the grade requirement is gone.
Every autofill gets Aegis.
Riot calls it an occasional bonus that isn’t guaranteed.
Swapping roles loses Aegis.
Swapping your autofilled role in champ select forfeits it.
Aegis shows your hidden MMR is high.
It is an LP bonus for filling. It says nothing reliable about your MMR.
Aegis is active. You win. You normally get +22 LP. Roughly what do you get?
- +22 LP
- +44 LP
- +22 LP, and your next loss is protected
Since 26.15, an Aegis win pays double. There is no loss protection any more.
