New Ahri Skin Pricing Sparks Controversy Among Fans

June 4, 2024

As an avid Ahri main and collector of her skins, I was initially thrilled to hear about the upcoming Hall of Legends event featuring new ultimate-like skins for my favorite champion. However, the excitement quickly turned to disappointment upon learning the hefty price tags attached to these exclusive skins.

The Risen Legend Ahri Skin, priced at 5430 RP, is already more expensive than the current ultimate skins available in the game. While it may offer legendary-tier features, the cost seems unjustifiably high. Even more concerning is the Immortalized Legend Ahri Skin, which comes with a staggering 32430 RP price tag. For dedicated Ahri mains like myself who have consistently supported the game through event pass purchases and skin collections, this feels like a slap in the face.

To make matters worse, the Signature Ahri Skin Upgrades are priced at an astronomical 59260 RP. As someone who has always dreamed of owning an ultimate skin for Ahri, it's disheartening to see this opportunity locked behind such an exorbitant paywall. The fact that these skins are 100% exclusive to the event only adds to the frustration, as it eliminates any hope of obtaining them in the future, even if financial circumstances change.

While I understand that this event is meant to celebrate the legendary player Faker, the pricing structure feels predatory and inaccessible to the average player. If the justification for these high costs includes the additional content bundled with the skins, such as icons, effects, chromas, and emotes, I would greatly appreciate the option to purchase the skin separately at a more reasonable price.

The players had enough to complain about even without this new skin. One of many topics of discussion is new matchmaking system. People seem to be unable to rank up this season. If you feel stuck, I'd recommend looking into these boosting packs or duo carry options. We all need a little bit of help sometimes.

It's important to note that my criticism of these prices does not stem from a lack of willingness to support the game. I have happily purchased event passes and skins in the past, as I believe in supporting the creators of a free game that brings me joy. However, there is a stark difference between offering compelling value for money and implementing a pricing model that feels exploitative.

I sincerely hope that Riot Games will reconsider their approach to this event and make the ultimate Ahri skin more accessible to the playerbase. By doing so, they can truly honor Faker's legacy while also showing appreciation for the dedicated fans who have supported the game and their favorite champions through thick and thin.
